NEDERLANDS-VLAAMS ( To the English section with an 80 years old recording by the Baxter Brothers and the birthday of a great trumpet player)

FRANK ROSOLINO: TROMBONIST

(Frank Rosolino Quintet: Let's Make It. )
Lonehilljazz platen zijn o.a. te koop bij de muziekafdeling van De Drvkkery in Middelburg.
Tenslotte nog een stukje Frank Rosolino: Mean To Me

ROY HARGROVE: Happy Birthday

His career started lated 1980s when he was discovered in the music class of his High School by Wynton Marsalis and since that date he performed with all major jazz artists. Last night I played his latest album Earfood with his regular working quintet, featuring Justin Robinson on the alto saxophone, Gerald Clayton at the piano, Danton Boller on bass and Montez Coleman on drums. With this group he performed in the

Roy Hargrove is a regular visitor of the Porgy en Bess Jazz Club and the photo used in this small contribution is from a concert ten years ago; one of the first times I heard him playing. Roy will perform on the 1st of November 2008 at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in a concert with his Quintet featuring Benjamin Herman and Jesse Van Ruller.

Georgia Stomp - 47181-3
Forty Drops - 47182-3
Recorded in Atlanta Georgia (USA) on the 16th of October 1928, 80 years ago, for Victor
These two men where father and son and formed a duo, also called the Baxter Brothers. They travelled along Georgia during the 1920s. In 1927 they made a remarkable recording for Victor in Charlotte, North Carolina together with the Georgia Yellow Hammers, a white band. It became one of the first ingegrated recordings; very unusual and almost impossible in the Roaring Twenties. After making three tunes on the 9th of August 1927 Andrew Baxter played the fiddle on the tune G Rag by the Georgia Yellow Hammers.
Listen to that 80 years old tune Georgia Stomp by Andrew and Jim Baxter released on Victor 20962.
