Jazz Voor-Für-For-Di Dummies

The book Jazz Voor - Für - For - Di Dummies is a well known handbook for the laymen in jazz. Today I hope give you some new information about the habits and body language in jazz. Some introspection!

In the weeks to come the jazz clubs will present their new programs. I received a message from De Werf, the jazz club of Brugge, the old city in the northwestern part of Belgium and also the Porgy en Bess Jazz Club in Terneuzen and Jazz Eetcafé Desafinado in Middelburg, both in the soutwest part of The Netherlan
ds, made plans for concerts. The jazz festival Jazz By The Sea, traditionally heldin the month of September in the province of Zeeland is sceduled this year from 11 up to 16 September 2007.

I think it is good to take now and then some time to reflect and to look back on our common passion - the jazz music. Do you realize that we are a minority group with nearly sectarian elements? Have you ever looked to a jazz concert with the eyes of a person who is just an outsider in jazz? Someone who looks, astonished sometimes, at a respectful distance, to the musicians on stage and their fans, who produce with deformed faces strange sounds and wild rhythms?

I found a film fragment, made through the eyes of such an outsider in jazz that shows how weird our habits are in fact.
Well, after you have seen the film you have enough time, although it needs some nerves, to leave the scene and to search for another leisure activity like collecting stamps, playing chess or kite surfing, to give some suggestions.

Het boek Jazz Voor - Für - For - Di Dummies is een bekend handboek voor leken in jazz. Vandaag wil ik jullie wat meer informatie geven over de lichaamstaal en gewoonten in jazz. Een soort zelftest dus !! De komende weken zullen de jazzclubs hun nieuwe programma's bekend maken. Ik kreeg al een mailing van de jazzclub uit Brugge, De Werf, die binenkort haar seizoen opent. Ook de Porgy en Bess Jazz Club in Terneuzen en Jazz Eetcafé Desafinado zullen binnenkort wel met hun eerste jazzoptredens komen. Traditioneel wordt in de maand september in Zeeland het jazzfestival Jazz By The Sea gehouden, deze keer gepland van 11 t/m 16 september 2007.

Ik denk dat het goed is om eens even stil te staan bij jezelf en eens objectief te kijken naar die gemeenschappelijke gekte die ons bindt - de jazzmuziek. Reliseer je je wel dat je tot een minderheidsgroep behoort met haast sectarische elementen? Heb je jezelf als eens bekeken door de ogen van een leek op jazzgebied, die voor het eerst een jazzoptreden meemaakt? Die voor het eerst, op eerbiedige afstand, naar jazzmuzikanten staat te kijken, die met verwrongen koppen vreemde geluiden produceren op vreemde niet-westerse ritmen?

Ik vond een film, gemaakt door een Engels satirische programma, dat je door de bril van de buitenstaander laat kijken.
Sterkte met het verwerken van de confontratie en bedenkt, dat je nog tijd genoeg hebt, al vraagt het lef, om voor het nieuwe jazzseizoen een andere vrijetijdsbesteding te kiezen, zoals bijvoorbeeld schaakspelen, postzegels verzamelen of kite surfing.
