April's Fool

Zelf zou ik dat allemaal niet kunnen verzinnen: April's Fool, geschreven door Ron Blake, is voor mij gewoon een schitterende ballad gespeeld door het Roy Hargrove Quintet in januari 1994. Het is niet zomaar toevallig dat Roy Hargrove vandaag centraal staat in mijn openings keepswinging web log ( de vierhonderdste vandaag !!) voor april. Voor mij en velen met mij horen Roy Hargrove en Porgy en Bess bij elkaar. De Porgy en Bess Jazz Club in Terneuzen immers is een soort thuis voor hem geworden, waar de drukbezette jazztrompetist minstens één keer per jaar komt proeven van de unieke sfeer. Over een paar weken komt hij weer - voor de tiende keer geloof ik of zijn het er al meer ...... Ik hoop er in ieder geval bij te zijn.
Deze keer is zijn bezoekje aan de Porgy en Bess Jazz Club aan de Lange Noordstraat in Terneuzen extra bijzonder, aangezien het deze maand haar vijftigste verjaardag viert met een heleboel festiviteiten en bijeenkomsten. Niet alleen komen er grote namen uit de jazzwereld, ook zijn er optredens van lokale artiesten, klassieke concerten, schrijvers, cabaretiers en openbare lessen. De complete agenda van deze maand vind je hier.
Ik vond een mooi fragment waarin Roy Hargrove speelt met een paar grote tenor spelers, Johnny Griffin', Joshua Redman en Ron Blake . Dit optreden is uit de tijd dat April's Fool werd opgenomen, maar is dat nummer niet. Geniet er in ieder geval !!

This time his appearance in Porgy & Bess Jazz Club is very special, because this month the jazz club celebrates its 50th birthday with a lot of special concerts and meetings. Not only great names in jazz, but also stage performances of local artists, classical concerts, literature, cabaret and clinics. You can read the complete agenda here.

Zoals die dierentuin in het midden van Nederland die meldde dat alle bavianen, bang geworden voor iets onduidelijks, zich terugetrokken hadden op de apenrots of het reisbureau, dat voor vandaag een unieke excursie aankondigde naar de flanken van de Duivelsberg bij Nijmegen om daar de onlangs herontdekte Armpotige Bergduivel ( Allopauropus Montdiabolus) te gaan zoeken.

I'm much to serious for that: For me April's Fool is a great ballad composed by Ron Blake and played by the Roy Hargrove Quintet January 1994. ( Roy Hargrove flügelhorn, Ron Blake tenor and soprano saxophone, Cyrus Chestnut piano, Rodney Whitaker bass and Gregory Hutchinson drums. ) Listen to a fragment of it !! It's really a great ballad

It's really a great balladIt is not by accident that Roy Hargrove is the main subject of this blog that starts April. For me, and a lot of other readers of this blog, Roy and the Porgy & Bess Jazz Club in Terneuzen ( southwest part of the Netherlands) have a lot in common. It is a place where he loves to play at least one time a year and this month he will again be the star for at least the tenth time ( or is it more .....?). Of course I'll be there.

It is NOT April's Fool, so the tune stays anonymous.

I was looking over the net for my beloved Prague Syncopated Orchestra and found that you have fallen in love with their music too!! I was in Prague and I was walking across a bridge when a catchy tune caught my ear. It was the Orchestra. It made me want to dance instantly, so 3 minutes later and 20 Euro's lesser, I became a proud owner of this fabulous band! I'm glad there are more of us swingers still out there!!
