A lot of people loved to visit this Keep swinging web log during the past 20 months. Since it started 91,000 people opened this free blog and during the last month 9400 people read the messages. Thanks for that, and also thanks for the numerous reactions you sent to the editor ( keepswinging@live ). A lot of people, who contacted me, loved to know how and where they could order the music discussed. Some music presented is hard to find. One of those music styles that are only available in South America, except in some specialized shops or at the internet, is Choro music, as played in Brazil. Joergen, who is the driving force behind the excellent Choro web log ( http://choro-music.blogspot.com/ ) knows how difficult it is to find these recordings.

That's why I love to introduce you to a compilation album, made by EMI, that seems to be available world-wide, as it is part of a series, called Hemisphere, Around The World In 73 releases ......... The title is BRAZIL CHORO: SAXOPHONE, WHY CRY?( EMI 7243 4 96133 ) and it contains 20 tunes all related to Choro music.
It says about the Choro style: Samba meets jazz meets classical chamber music in Brazil's chorinho style. This is sinuous and sensual instrumental music of phenomenal virtuosity. Let's make something clear: I normally don't advise to buy cheap compilations, as they often contain a hodge podge of mediocre tunes, but this time I'll make an exception. This album contains a great selection as played by numerous named choro artists, like Waldir Azevedo, Abel Ferreira, Radames Gnattali, Joël Nascimento, Pixinguinha and the Os Choröes group.

• Paulinho da Viola: Saraú Para Radamés

Paulinho da Viola is a Brazilian cavaquinho player, whose father was part of the well known Epoca de Ouro, that group that accompanied musicians like Jacob do Bandolim. Paulinho da Viola is known as a samba player and composer in Brazil, but he also loves to play the choro music. He even made a choro album, titled Chorando.
I found a fragment of this tune as played by M&M in a concert in Buenos Aires (Argentina).

• Waldir Azevedo: Pedacinho do Céu

Waldir Azevedo is one of those legendary players and composers in choro music. It is said that he is the greatest cavaquinho player in history. He passed away in 1980, 57 years old. This song, Pedacinho do ceu was recorded shortly before he passed away.

Sinds de start in februari 2006 zijn er 91.000 bezoekjes geregistreerd, wat betekent dat we bij het tweejarig bestaan de magische grens van 100.000 gepasseerd zullen zijn. De afgelopen maand openden zo'n 9400 mensen de site en de reacties op keepswinging@live geven aan dat de opzet en afwisseling op de site gewaardeerd wordt. Platen die besproken worden roepen soms herinneringen op of vragen zoals: Waar kunnen we hem kopen? Soms is zo'n vraag makkelijk te beantwoorden; soms is een album zeldzaam en niet meer te koop. Sommige muziek is, buiten Zuid Amerika, moeilijk te vinden en dan denk ik aan de choromuziek, zoals die gespeeld wordt in Brazilië en besproken wordt in de Keep swinging web log, maar vooral ook in de Choro web log ( http://choro-music.blogspot.com). Dit is gemakkelijk in het gehoor liggende en gevoelige instrumentale muziek die een fenomenale techniek vereist. ) Laat ik eerst even iets rechtzetten: normaal gesproken ben ik niet zo gecharmeerd van goedkope budget-verzamel CDs. Ze maken er meestal een potje van; nummers worden willekeurig overal vandaan geplukt en op de schijf gesmeten; vaak zonder degelijke documentatie of informatie. Deze keer maak ik een uitzondering. De plaat bevat een selectie van gerenomeerde choromuzikanten en er is aandacht besteed aan voldoende informatie en een prima geluid. Op het album vinden we musici terug als Waldir Azevedo, Abel Ferreira, Radames Gnattali, Joël Nascimento, Pixinguinha en de groep Os Choröes.

Paulinho da Viola is een Braziliaanse cavaquinho speler, wiens vader deel uitmaakte van de bekende groep Epoca de Ouro, de groep die grootten als Jacob do Bandolim begeleidden. Paulinho da Viola is vooral bekend als sambaspeler en componist in Brazilië, maar heeft zich ook gestort op de choromuziek. Hij maakte het choro-album Chorando.
