Modest as always Jo hoped to come off well with this small message. No, that shouldn't be fair. Your 125th web log is a milestone, Jo, that attracks attention.
Choro is a Brazilian music style, very popular in the 1920s and 1930s, but still popular nowadays. This blog wants to share our passion for this music and its musicians like Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolim or Garotto with you.
He started this Choro music blog in June 2006 with a contribution about the soundtracks of the great DVD Brasileirinho . This Choro-music web log was born out of a shared passion for the Brazilian Choro music and thanks to Jo, who is an expert in this kind of music in this part of the world, it is now a weekly benchmark for those who share this passion worldwide.
I love to post a link to this 125th contribution here, dedicated to the great Brazilian musician and composer Garoto and I have translated it into Dutch, for the more then 120 daily Dutch speaking visitors of this blog. Congratulation Jo with this landmark !!

Bescheiden als altijd had Jo gehoopt er op deze manier van af te komen; nee, dat zou geen recht doen aan zijn werk; 125 blogs is niet niks.
Choro is een Braziliaanse muziekstijl, die erg populair was in de jaren twintig en dertig van de vorige eeuw, maar die ook nu nog steeds in Brazilië veel gespeeld wordt. Deze weblog wil onze passie voor deze muziek en haar vertolkers zoals Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolim of Garotto met jullie delen.
Hij begon deze Choro music weblog in juni 2006 met een bijdrage over de muziek zoals die te vinden is op de schitterende documentaire Brasileirinho. De Choro-music web log is voortgekomen uit een gedeelde fascinatie van Jo en mij voor deze Braziliaanse Choromuziek en dankzij Jo, die aan deze kant van de wereld een expert genoemd mag worden, zijn de wekelijkse Choro-music bijdragen een vast ijkpunt in de week geworden.
Ik vind het dan ook leuk zijn laatste 125ste bijdrage met jullie te delen en daarom heb ik hier een Nederlandse vertaling bijgevoegd. Als je de Engelse versie wilt lezen klik dan op de titelbalk.

Garoto (Anibal Augusto Sardinha) (1915-1955) is één van die constante factoren in de Braziliaanse muziek, dankzij zijn muzikale nalatenschap, die vastgelegd is op plaat of in composities die hij vooral op het eind van zijn leven schreef. Garoto is vooral een begrip in Brazilië als het gaat over het bespelen van de violão ( = gitaar); hij was de eerste die nieuwe richtingen aangaf in de choro en samba, geinspireerd en beinvloed door de Amerikaanse jazzharmonieën en door klassieke componisten als Debussy. Bovendien: Garoto was een virtuoos op allerlei tokkelinstrumenten: violão (6 snarige akoestische gitaar), de electrische gitaar, de tenorgitaar, de banjo, de cavaquinho, de bandolim en zelfs de hawaiian steelgitaar. Het is natuurlijk moeilijk om je te meten met zo'n veelzijdig artiest; er zijn in Brazilië maar een paar die daaraan kunnen tippen aan zo'n talent. Dat wil niet zeggen dat de muziek van Garoto niet gespeeld is of op de plaat gezet is door anderen; integendeel, er zijn schitterende voorbeelden aan te wijzen zoals de opnamen gemaakt in 1991 door Paulo Bellinati van Garoto's gitaarwerken; de vele bijdragen van Raphael Rabello en het eerbetoon van Zé Menezes uit 1998.
Onlangs vond ik een nieuwe CD, die muzikale compositie bevat van Garoto: Vamos Acabar com o Baile ( = Stop het dansen !!) door Henrique Cazes & Marcello Gonçalves op het Deckdisc label . Deze CD is het resultaat van van een project. uitgevoerd door Henrique Cazes, vituoos op de cavaquinho, producent en muziekhistoricus. Om zijn 30 jarig jubileum in de muziek te vieren speelde Henrique Cazes met de 7-snarige-gitaar-virtuoos Marcello Gonçalves van het Trio Madeira Brasil in een schitterend eerbetoon aan Garoto's muziek door 13 Garoto composities te spelen in duo bezetting. Op de betreffende plaat speelt Henrique Cazes zowel de cavaquinho als de tenorgitaar; één precies gelijk aan die die Garoto bezat. Ik heb er vijftien jaar naar gezocht: vertelde Cazes onlangs in een interview. Het samenspel van Cazes en Gonçalves is fantastisch; de twee kennen elkaar elkaar al jaren door en door dankzij eerdere projecten, zoals dat over de muziek van Pixinguinha. Deze plaat zal ongetwijfeld hoog eindigen in de ranglijst van de instrumentale muziek. Hoogst aanbevolen

Thank you, Hans, for pointing to the Choro blogspot and especially to my small review of a new release of Garoto's music, this is urgent stuff, if you are interested in Brazilian choro and related in a marvellous contemporary issue. Thanks also for the effort translating into the Dutch language, a task I never would have been able to do properly.
