Song For Linda, Nelly, Frank and Hans

As I grew up in a small village, named Hoedekenskerke, 600 inhabitants, at the banks of the river Scheldt, in the province of Zeeland, a rather remote area in the southwestern part of The Netherlands, I can share the feelings of Juan Pablo Cerkvenik, who wrote me some days ago. Juan Carlos lives in Rio Gallegos in the south of Argentina, close to the Chilean border and the well known Tierra del Fuego, the most soutern part of the Americas. The first time he contacted me must have been in 2006. He had found my websites dedicated to Oscar Aleman, and was surprised to learn that others shared his passion for this great Argentine guitar player. Early 2007 he sent me a sound file, where he plays the tune

on his guitar together with the original John Coltrane recording.

Last week Juan Pablo wrote me again:

Hi Hans. How are you?. It’s Juan Pablo from Argentina. Thanks a lot for your comments about my Blue train guitar version. It really cheered me up to pick up the guitar again because I have been a little bit down and I had decided to put the guitar down for a long time because nobody likes or pay attention what I play here. hmm, that’s why I think I must the only Oscar Aleman’s fan in my city ( I live in Rio Gallegos, a small city located in the south of Argentina). It’s very tough to find a person here who knows who Oscar Aleman was. Well, I have another song for you. In this case there is a little story behind it. Since I started using the internet I had met a lot of people from different countries but surprisingly the only friends that became real and true friends had in common that they all were Dutch. Moreover, because of me they meet in real life and now they are “real life” friends. I made this song as a gift for them. You will notice that your name is included in it because it’s dedicated to Dutch people too (included Maxima :-) ).I have to go. i hope you enjoy it. bye take care see ya next time Good luck. In a note to this message he tells about Frank and his mother Nelly,who live in Rotterdam and Linda who lives in ‘s-Gravendeel. He writes that he met some other Dutch people from Breda and Emmen. Isn't it cute? I remember that in 1721 the Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen, who grew up in Middelburg, the capital of our region, the place where I have my work, left Middelburg for a trip to map out a new route to China and he and his men discovered Cabo de Hornos, the ultimate southern part of South America and became the first Dutchmen to visit that region. Later on this trip he discovered Paaseiland ( The Chilean island of Rapa Nui ).

and to be honest, it feels great to learn that my name will be allied to this tune for ever !!

Thanks Juan Pablo for this surprise - it's a great tune and I suggest we should keep this melody as a kind of national anthem for the Dutch people. What do you think of this suggestion?

Aangezien ik zelf opgroeide in een tamelijk afgelegen klein dorpje, Hoedekenskerke ( 600 inwoners) in het zuidwesten van Nederland, aan de oevers van de Westerschelde, in de provincie Zeeland, kan ik me de gevoelens van Juan Pablo Cerkvenik, die me vorige week mailde, goed invoelen. Juan Carlos woont in Rio Gallegos, een stad aan de monding van de gelijknamige rivier in het zuiden van Argentinië, vlakbij de Chileense grens en het beter bekende zuidelijke puntje van Zuid Amerika, Vuurland. Hij schreef me vorig jaar al eens, toen hij mijn websites over Oscar Aleman, had gevonden en verrast was te ontdekken dat hij niet de enige was, die de muziek van de grote Argentijnse jazz gitarist Oscar Aleman bewonderde.

Begin van dit jaar mailde hij me weer en stuurde me een geluidsfragment op waarin bij het nummer

op zijn gitaar speelt, samen met de opname, zoals we die kennen van John Coltrane.

Afgelopen week schreef Juan Pablo het volgende ( in vertaling uiteraard):

Hoi Hans. Hoe gaat het er mee? Ik ben Juan Pablo uit Argentina. Bedankt voor je commentaar op mijn gitaarversie van Blue Train. Het heeft me echt goed gedaan. Ik voelde me de laatste tijd wat down, omdat niemand geinteresseerd leek in mijn gitaarspel. Het lijkt wel of ik de enige Oscar Aleman fan ben hier ( Ik woon in Rio Gallegos, een klein stadje in het zuiden van Argentinië). Het is erg moeilijk om iemand hier te vinden, die de muziek van Oscar Aleman kent. Ik heb weer een nummer voor je, maar er hoort een verhaal bij. Vanaf het moment dat ik toegang tot het internet heb, ken ik een heleboel mensen in andere landen, maar de echte vrienden die ik vond, hadden allen gemeen, dat het Nederlanders waren. Sommigen heb ik hier ontmoet en ze zijn echte vrienden geworden. Ik heb dit liedje dan ook voor hen gemaakt en zoals je ziet staat jouw naam er ook in. Het is ook een eerbetoon aan het Nederlandse volk ( en natuurlijk ook Maxima !!). Ik moet nu gaan - ik hoop dat je het leuk vindt. Tot ziens en veel geluk. Juan Pablo.
In een noot onder aan het bericht vertelt hij dat Frank en zijn moeder Nelly in Rotterdam wonen en over Linda uit ‘s-Gravendeel. Hij vertelt dat hij ook mensen uit Breda en Emmen ontmoet heeft, maar daar nu geen contact meer mee heeft. Is dat niet leuk allemaal? Ik realisseer me ineens, dat in 1721 de Middelburgse koopman en ontdekkingsreiziger Jacob Roggeveen Middelburg verliet voor een tocht naar China, waarbij hij en passant Kaap Hoorn ontdekte, het uiterste puntje van Zuid Amerika en zo dus de eerste Nederlander was, die deze afgelegen gebieden bezocht op zijn vaartocht, waarbij hij uiteindelijk Paaseiland ( nu het Chileense eiland Rapa Nui) ontdekte.
Juan Pablo maakte een nummer speciaal voor zijn Nederlandse vrienden, getiteld

en om eerlijk te zijn voel ik me toch wel een beetje vereerd te ontdekken dat mijn naam voor eeuwig verbonden is met dit lied.

Bedankt Juan Pablo voor deze verrassing en het lijkt me een goed idee om eens te kijken of we niet iets met dit lied kunnen doen, bijvoorbeeld als een soort volklied voor alle Nederlanders of zo. Ik denk er over na !!
