Craig Ventresco

( Naar de Nederlandse vertaling.)

Music can hit you if it is played at the right spot and at the right moment. Last night I enjoyed the album The Past Is Yet To Come by fingerpick guitar player Craig Ventresco, released nearly ten years ago. He has a strong rhythmical touch while playing the guitar as if he has to fill the whole room with his accoustic guitar without any amplifier. It is a solo album, filled with early 20th century vaudeville, ragtime and popular music from the early days.
I learned about the music of Craig Ventresco by an album of Bo Grumpus, a group he had in the late 1980s. He made some more interesting albums like the soundtrack for the film Crumb, I will discuss later. Thanks to my contribution about Bo Grumpus I came into contact with the man who filmed the fragments and he told me that Paul Asaro, would perfom with his trio featuring Craig Ventresco at the first of April 2007.

This stage performance took place on the 1st of April 2007 as the Ragtime Revelry Concert KC in Kansas City (USA) with the Paul Asaro Trio, featuring Paul Asaro at the piano and responsable for the vocals, Scott Black on cornet and Craig Ventresco on the guitar.
I love to share with you some fragments of this concert. The first one will be I Wish I Were Twins as played by Fats Waller ( Paul even tries to imitate Waller making faces ); the second one will be Sugar Blues and finally a solo of Craig Ventresco at the fingerpicked guitar.

Nederlands ( To the English translation )
