A year ago I made a contribution in my daily web log titled Choro also in Holland? I got a nice respons of Mariângela Guimarães, editor of the www.brazilie.net website, that want to inform its readers about the cultur in Brazil. Some days ago she contacted me again with information about a great concert of the Trio Carioca at the World Music and Dance Centre in Rotterdam, next week ( 21st of March 2007 - start 20.30 hrs. ). The line-up of the trio will be Paulo Aragao and Mauricio Carrilho on guitars and Pedro Paes on clarinet.
By change, Joergen posted a contribution on his Choro web log yesterday about Altamiro Carrilho, who happens to be Mauricio's uncle. Mauricio was born in a musical family. His father was the famous flute player and composer Altamiro Carrilho. Mauricio started to play the guitar as a kid and studied samba and choro music. In 1977 he started his career in the group the Carioquinhas, with Raphael (guitar) and Luciana Rabello ( cavaquinho). Two years later he entered the Carioca Camerata, directed by Radames Gnattali. In the 1990s he founded his own trio with Peter Amorim and Pablo Sergio Santos. They had a great hit in Brasil and abroad and made him a sought-after guitar player and arranger. He founded the Acari record label in 1999, dedicated to the Choro music.

Een jaar geleden vroeg ik in mijn dagelijkse weblog aandacht voor de vraag of er in Nederland eigenlijk wel Choro muziek gespeeld werd. ( Choro also in Holland? ) Ik kreeg een uitgebreide reactie van Mariângela Guimarães, samensteller van de www.brazilie.net website, een pagina, die de culturele betrekkingen tussen Brazilië en Nederland onder de aandacht wil brengen. Een paar dagen geleden mailde ze me om me te wijzen op een concert van het Trio Carioca in het World Music and Dance Centre in Rotterdam, komende week ( 21 maart 2007 - start 20.30 u. ). Het trio bestaat uit Paulo Aragao en Mauricio Carrilho op de gitaar en Pedro Paes op klarinet.
Toevallig postte Joergen gisteren een bijdrage op zijn Choro web log gewijd aan Altamiro Carrilho, toevallig de oom van Mauricio. Mauricio is de telg uit een muzikale familie. Zijn vader is de beroemde fluitspeler en componist Alvaro Carrilho. Mauricio koos echter voor de gitaar en studeerde samba en choro muziek. In 1977 begon hij zijn carriere in de groep de Carioquinhas, met Raphael (gitaar) en Luciana Rabello ( cavaquinho). Twee jaar later stapte hij over naar de Carioca Camerata, geleid door Radames Gnattali. In de jaren negentig richtte hij zijn eigen trio op met Peter Amorim en Pablo Sergio Santos. Ze hadden een grote hit met een CD in Brazilië en Mauricio werd bekend als arrangeur en gitarist, ook buiten Zuid Amerika. In 1999 richtte hij het Acari record label op, geheel gewijd aan de Choro muziek.
Ik vond een interview met Mauricio Carrilho dat je misschien interessant vindt ( mits je Frans begrijpt) en een paar fragmenten van optrdens met Mauricio Carrilho op gitaar. Het laatste fragment, Mimosa, gecomponeerd door Jacob do Bandolim heb ik al eens eerder op mijn blog gezet, maar ik laat het graag nog eens zien.

Most of the times I'm happy to live in the countryside in the far southwest part of the Netherlands far away from the temptations of the big city. Next week I'd wish I was in Rotterdam ( or Paris, where they play on the 25th), but the next morning 28 children, eager to learn, need all my energy. Meestal ben ik blij niet in de grote stad te wonen, met al zijn geneugten en verleidingen, maar lekker rustig verstopt op het platteland ergens in Zuidwest Nederland.
Toch zou ik volgende week best even in Rotterdam (of Parijs, waar ze de 25ste optreden) willen zijn bij het concert, maar helaas - de volgende morgen zitten weer 28 kindertjes smachtend op informatie en spannende verhalen te wachten, die al mijn energie opslokken. Bedankt Mariângela dat je me op het concert gewezen hebt en veel succes met je web site.Deze bijdrage wordt ook geplaatst op de Choro web log

Thanks, Hans, for pointing to the upcomming concert and for the profile of Mauricio Carillho - a great musician and a true spokesman in favour of choro. The video fragments are great, too. Thanks again.
