Papa Bue

Authentic dixieland - Pure nostalgia.
This little EP is one of the items I received from the estate of Jan H., a small Storyville 45rpm EP (Extended Play).
Arne Bue Jensen, better known as Papa Bue founded his Viking Jazzband in 1956 as the New Orleans Jazz Band and renamed it later. He started his carreer in the mid 1950s at the Chris Barber band and as a trombone player in the Bonanza Jazz Band.
As Papa Bue's Viking Jazzband they became a famous dixieland band and I have heard it perform somewhere in the 1970s.
Now this music only has some sentimental value for me and I will save it in my collection as a reminder of an earlier period in my musical growth.
The Storyville label was founded in the early 1950s and one of its leading figures was Karl Emil Knudsen. I remember I met him at the Convention of the International Association of Jazz Record Collectors in 1999 in Hamburg.
We were selling our stuff in the record room together and he bought my discographies and CDs. He compensated it with records from his own label; take what you want .... he said and I left Hamburg with a bunch of Storyville CDs.
A remarkable man !!

Deze EP is één van de platen die ik meebracht uit de collectie van Jan H., een 45 toeren EP van het Storyville label.
Arne Bue Jensen, beter bekend als Papa Bue stichtte zijn Viking Jazzband in 1956 als de New Orleans Jazz Band en gaf het later zijn huidige naam. Hij begon zijn carriere als trombonist bij Chris Barber en speelde in de Bonanza Jazz Band. Als Papa Bue en zijn Viking Jazzband werd hij een beroemde dixielandformatie en ik heb hem een keer horen spelen in Rotterdam halverwege de jaren zeventig.
Zijn muziek heeft voor mij nu alleen nog wat sentimentele waarde en ik zal hem in mijn colectie opnemen als een voorbeeld van wat ik vroeger wel eens leuk gevonden heb.
Het Storyville label werd opgericht begin jaren vijftig in Kopenhagen (Denemarken). Eén van zijn opmerkelijke oprichters was Karl Emil Knudsen. Ik herinner me hem ontmoet te hebben in 1999 op de Conventie van de International Association of Jazz Record Collectors in 1999 in Hamburg.
Ik herinner me dat we platen en boeken verkochten in de zgn. Record Room en dat hij boeken en platen bij me kocht .... in ruil voor een stapel Storyville platen.
Neem maar wat je nodig hebt zei hij en dus ging ik met een flinke stapel Storyville CDs naar huis.
ps: Kan iemand me de opnamedata van deze Storyville SEP 367 EP vertellen?
