Keep (it) Swinging: Ron Carter-Philip Catherine-Jackie Terrasson Trio

Hot Hits are tunes, solos or film fragments that fascinate me. Today, as an overture to the North Sea Jazz Festival, a film fragment of a concert by the Ron Carter-Philip Catherine-Jackie Terrasson Trio.

Ron Carter - bass player, one of the musicians to perform tonight at the North Sea Jazz Festival in a tribute to Miles Davis: Dear Miles. Tonight he will bring his quartet, featuring himself at the bass, Stephen Scott at the piano, Payton Crossley on drums and Rolando Morales-Matos on percussion. Ron Carter, now one of the most talented bass players, played in Miles Davis famous quintet, the quintet that was responsable for the famous Plugged Nickel recordings.

I found a fragment by Ron Carter together with our own guitar player Philip Catherine, (mind that I live close to the Belgian border). Philip Catherine recently made a great new solo album, titled Guitars Two, so I was doing a search on the internet when I found this great fragment. Third man is the French-American piano player Jackie Terrasson, known for his great improvistations. Today, as an overture to the North Sea Jazz Festival, this little fragment - to all people who wonder, what's so special to Jazz ........

GHENT JAZZ FESTIVAL: The Ghent Jazz Festival has been scedulded from the 10th up to the 20th of July 2008. Two long weekends filled with Jazz. I found some great concerts that should be mentioned here in case you want to visit it. On Saturday the 12th of July the Flat Earth Society, directed by Peter Vermeersch brings the Finnish saxophone player Jil Tenor to De Bijloke Muziekcentrum. The next day, Sunday the 13th of July, Bert Joris and

his quintet with Enrico Pieranunzi and if you keep your seats you can also enjoy Ravi Coltrane, indeed, the son of ..., Joe Lovano and Dave Liebman as the Saxophone Summit. On Friday the 18th of July it's Cuban Time in Ghent: Roberto Fonseca, Omara Portuondo and the Bueno Vista Social Club will make its appearance. Ghent Jazz Festival

Hot Hits kunnen nummers, solo's of filmfragmenten van optredens zijn, die me op de één of andere manier raken. Deze keer als opmaat voor het Northsea Jazz Festival een filmfragment dat ik vond met het Ron Carter-Philip Catherine-Jackie Terrasson Trio.

Ron Carter - bassist, is één van de musici die vanavond zijn opwachting maakt op het Northsea Jazz Festival in een eerbetoon aan Miles Davis: Dear Miles. Vanavond speelt Ron Carter met zijn kwartet, dat bestaat uit Stephen Scott aan de piano, Payton Crossley op drums en Rolando Morales-Matos op percussie. Ron Carter, nu één van de meest getalenteerde bassisten, speelde in het beroemde kwintet van Miles Davis, dat o.a. bekend is geworden door de beroemde opnamen vanuit de Plugged Nickel.

Ik vond een fragment van een concert met Ron Carter, samen met onze eigen gitarist ( ik woon tegen de Belgische grens aan, dus .....) Philip Catherine, die de afgelopen dagen mijn speciale aandacht had, vanwege zijn nieuwe album Guitars Two. Ik kwam dit prachtige concert dan ook tegen toen ik op het internet opzoek was naar filmfragmenten. De derde man is Jackie Terrasson, de Frans-Amerikaanse pianist, bekend van zijn schitterende improvisaties. Vandaag dus als opmaat voor het festival dit schitterende trio; vooral voor die mensen, die worstelen met de vraag: Jazz - wat is er nou zo bijzonder aan Jazz? Misschien helpt dit fragment je de vraag te beantwoorden.

GENT JAZZ FESTIVAL: Het Gentse Jazz Festival staat gepland voor 10 tot 20 juli 2008; twee lange weekends vol schitterende jazz.
Ik vond een aantal concerten, die je zeker moet gaan zien. Op zaterdag 12 juli 2008 treedt in het Bijloke Muziekcentrum de Flat Earth Society op onder leiding van Peter Vermeersch met als speciale gast de Finse saxofonist Jil Tenor. De dag daarop, zondag 13 juli 2008, vind je in diezelfde za
