Keep (it) Swinging: Tivoli Big Band indentified

A few days ago I posted a contibution, titled Jazz I Danmark - Tivoli Big Band about our small trip to Denmark some weeks ago. During our visit in Tivoli Garden in the centre of Copenhagen we were surprised by a concert of the Tivoli Big Band. This band has a regular gig during the summer season at the Tivoli Garden and contains professional Danish jazz musicians.
In my blog I posted some pictures I made from the band and solists during its performance. As I was unable to remember the names of the musicians I asked your help.Thanks to Benny Rosenfeld, trumpet player in the orchestra, I can offer you now the names of the musicians on the pictures.

Benny Rosenfeld is the lead trumpet player of the Tivoli Big Band for 31 years, as he writes on his website , but he is not on one of picture I made during the concert. Well, that must be a sad feeling for him, I guess, but ..... He will be surprised to read that I have two pictures of the Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band, made during a 2005 concert featuring the great Swedish clarinet player and band leader Putte Wickman, who passed away more then two years ago ( 14th of February 2006).

This concert was held at the Palace Hotel in the centre of Copenhagen on the 9th of July 2005, at the 2005 IAJRC Convention ( International Association of Jazz Record Collectors). Well, I was there and made two pictures and you can find Benny, almost hidden, next to Thomas Fryland in the back row.

Benny Rosenfeld posted a fragment of a concert with the Tivoli Big Band at Tivoli Gardens, recorded in the summer of 2007, and it gives us a great example of how this great Tivoli Big Band sounds with Marten Lundgren and Thomas Fryland as the soloists.

Een week geleden plaatste ik een bijdrage getiteld Jazz I Danmark - Tivoli Big Band over onze korte vakantie in Denemarken even daarvoor. Tijdens ons bezoek aan het Tivoli pretpark, midden in Kopenhagen, werden we aangenaam verrast door een concert van de Tivoli Big Band. Deze band speelt regelmatig in het Tivoli Park en bestaat uit Deense beroepsmusici.
In mijn blog plaatste ik enkele foto's van musici, die soleerden en één van het orkest, maar ik kon daarbij niet de namen van de musici herinneren en vroeg de bloglezers om hulp. Dankzij Benny Rosenfeld, zelf trompettist bij de band, kunnen de foto's nu van namen worden voorzien.

Op de andere foto's stonden solisten zoals Jens Gotholdt, Vincent Nillsen, Anders Gaardmand en Martin Lundgren. Ik heb hun namen alsnog in groen in de bijdrage geplaatst en in mijn concert log voor 2008 , de plek waar ik alle optredens en concerten die ik ooit bijgewoond heb, plaats.

Benny Rosenfeld is al 31 jaar trompettist bij de Tivoli Big Band, zo meldt hij op zijn website, maar staat niet als solist op de foto's die ik een paar weken geleden van de band maakte. Dat is voor hem natuurlijk balen ... denk ik dan, maar ik heb een kleine verrassing voor hem: Ik vond twee foto's, die ik maakte van de Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band, gemaakt tijdens een concert met de inmiddels overleden ( 14 februari 2006) Zweedse klarinettist en bandleider Putte Wickman.

De concert vond plaats in het Palace Hotel in het centrum van Kopenhagen op 9 juli 2005 tijdens de jaarlijkse IAJRC Conventie ( International Association of Jazz Record Collectors), die dat jaar plaatsvond in Denemarken. Aangezien ik daar ook was heb ik een paar foto's gemaakt tijdens het concert en jawel .... verstopt in de achterste rij, naast Thomas Fryland staat Benny Rosenfeld.

Dankzij Benny Rosenfeld kan ik jullie een fragment laten zien van een optreden van de Tivoli Big Band in Tivoli Gardens, opgenomen van achter uit het orkest, in de zomer van 2007 en het geeft een goed voorbeeld van hoe hun muziek klinkt. De solisten zijn Marten Lundgren en Thomas Fryland.
