't Is zomer en dus vakantietijd. Je merkt dat aan het aantal dagelijkse bezoekers, maar niet aan het aantal interessante bijdragen op de Keep (it) Swinging blog. De afgelopen maand werd het project rond Ruud Jacob's debuut op Newport 1958 afgesloten met een terugblik op zijn optredens tijdens de Wereldtentoonstelling in Brussel (Expo '58) en tevens lanceerde ik een nieuwe MY JAZZ LINKS, die mijn "oude" linksite, die niet meer geüpdate wordt, gaat vervangen.

It's summer time - the number of visitors drops, but not the amount of interesting articles, like the final contribution about the 1958 Newport debut of Dutch bass player at the International Youth Band, directed by Marshall Brown. Last month I introduced MY new JAZZ LINKS site, which will replace my "old" Keep (it) Swinging link site.

Als Ruud Jacobs in augustus 1958 na ruim een maand terugkeert uit Newport (NY), na een tussenstop in Blokker en op de Expo in Brussel, wil hij maar één ding en dat is .... uitslapen .... In New York was het haast elke nacht drie, vier uur. in Brussel idem-dito. Zijn optreden in Newport vat hij samen als 't was 'n Jazz Feest ..... Het slot van een uitgebreide terugblik op het International Youth Orchestra o.l.v. When Ruud Jacobs, Dutch bass player who was invited to play in the International Youth Band, known as the Babel's Band, at the 1958 Newport festival, returned in Holland, he was worn out and wanted to have a long lie-in. He had performed with the band its final concerts at the Dutch Blokker festival and the World's Exhibition in Brussels: Expo '58. In New York we played until dawn, like in Brussels ......, but it was really a Jazz Feest ..... The final contribution of a long series of blogs dedicated to Ruud Jacobs and his debut at the Newport '58 festival as part of the 1958 International Youth Band: The Babel's Band at Brussels' Expo'58 ( MY LINKS SIE: All Newport'58 International Youth Band, featuring Ruud Jacbos contributions )

Het nieuwe album van Quatre Tickets de Swing, getiteld Swinging and Singing, doet zijn naam alle eer aan .... het bevat een uur swingende standards, die in de jaren dertig en veertig van de vorige eeuw populair waren in de Franse jazzscene. Op zes nummers wordt het ensemble aangevuld met vocaliste Ita van Dijk. Het album, met zijn opvallende hoes, waarop de sfeer van de muziek treffend is weergegeven, bevat verder instrumentale nummers, uit het Europese swingtijdperk, goed gespeeld en geschikt om te luisteren of te dansen ..... Een must voor iedereen die op zoek is naar relaxte swing uit de tijd van Django .....
The new CD by the Dutch jazzensemble Quatre Tickets de Swing, entitled Swinging and Singing, presents a repertoire of pleasantly swinging standards made popular at the 1930s and 1940s Parisian jazzscene. Six tracks have the singing of vocalist Ita van Dijk, and the remaining tracks are famous instrumental compositions that relive the atmosphere of the European Swing Era, everything perfectly produced and designed for both dancing, wining and dining as well as your casual listening enjoyment.

Van Louis Armstrong en Count Basie tot Don Redman, Adrian Rollini en Jimmie Lunceford ...... nooit eerder gehoorde radio-opnamen, testplaten, onuitgebrachte takes ....... Verplicht voer voor (78-toeren) jazzverzamelaars.
Fifty years Doctor Jazz Magazine ....... A Jazz Magazine that won't see fifty again .... unique in the world. How should such a 50 year old magazine remember his readers? Doctor Jazz Magazine released a 2cd with mostly unissued performances of the Legends of Jazz (1926-1952) entitled Dinnertime for Hungry Collectors, refering to the 1937 Raymond Scott hit Dinner Music For A Pack of Hungry Cannibals - it's a treasure-chest with unheard recordings from Louis Armstrong and Count Basie up to Don Redman, Adrian Rollini and Jimmie Lunceford ...... a feast for senior (78rpm) jazz record collectors
